Design Process

Analysis: Knowing Your Audience

During this phase background information about the project is explored. This can consist of reviewing previous and competitor web sites or applications, engaging in discussions with the clients and determining the audience. This helps me understand the content, audience and user characteristics. Knowing this information helps determine features and functions, user goals and what is desired from the application. The scope of the project is also determined during this phase.

Design: Creating a Solution

During this phase solutions are explored to the goals discovered in the analysis phase. Information design, navigation design, and rough graphic design take place. Multiple design ideas are created for the client to review and then a single direction is usually chosen. After a single direction is chosen there is usually a process where the design is refined and detailed. This phase is an iterative process.

Build: Executing the Design

During this phase page types are determined and designs are built into working prototypes using html and css. Efficiency and elegance of CSS/HTML along with Search Engine Optimization are always important. Graphics are optimized and pages are tested for browser compatibility.

Deploy: Going Live

This is the final phase of the project and is where the site is put live on the web. It's important to study web stats to measure audience traffic. It is during this phase that the web site is registered with all the major search engines.
